Suzanne Hawe

1976 to 1980

The School Librarian and Teacher in Charge of the Library were very fortunate to have Sue as their Head Librarian in 1980.  She held the position of school librarian for all her years at school. Sue was dedicated to her job, used her initiative and thoroughly enjoyed her position.  She left school with School Certificate, University Entrance and a B Bursary.  Her involvement in extracurricular activities included speech competitions as well as her work in the Library.

On leaving school Sue studied at Otago University and graduated with a Bachelor of Home Science (with Distinction) in 1985, followed by many years of part time study to attain a Diploma for Graduates (Otago) 2001, and a Graduate Diploma in Addiction Studies in 2011. Currently she is completing a Post Graduate Certificate in Strategic Leadership at Canterbury University.
Sue worked as a Dietician at Waikato Hospital before changing course to train as a Salvation Army Officer (Minister).  She has worked in parish work, as a regional youth officer, and since 2002 has worked in Salvation Army Addiction Services in Christchurch.
Sue has been fortunate to travel extensively and seen many interesting parts of the world including Australia, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, UK, USA, India, and Singapore.
Her interest in books/reading has resulted in Sue publishing a book of 28 short stories: Road of Recovery: 12 Step Meditations for Aotearoa (Flag Publications). Scrapbooking family history is Sue’s recreational focus.
She was appointed Director of The Salvation Army Addiction Services in Christchurch just six weeks before the February 2011 earthquake. Initial crisis management has been replaced by strategic change management to create increasingly responsive services to the ever changing demand for addiction services in Christchurch.
Sue is married to Andrew and has one son who is also studying at Canterbury University.
