Sheryl Meijer (Davis)
Sheryl gained School Certificate (1966), University Entrance/Higher School Certificate (1967) and completed a Chamber of Commerce Exam in Bookkeeping (1967).
She was a keen sportswoman and represented the school in many different codes. She swam in the school team and was a discus thrower at Thames Valley and Waikato Secondary School events. Sheryl was also a netballer and in the A softball team. She also had interests in the school photography club and was always on hand as backstage crew in the school productions, as well as being a handy library monitor.
Sheryl gained a Trained Teacher’s Certificate in 1971. She has taught in Early Childhood, Special School, Primary, Secondary and Tertiary institutions for over thirty years, and continues to do so. Her teaching career started in Takapau; moved to Christchurch; then to Auckland/Northland.
In 1988 Sheryl became a qualified coach for New Zealand Athletics and Special Olympics swimming. The following year Sheryl completed an Exercise Science Certificate. Sheryl was involved with Auckland Children’s Athletics for fourteen years, serving on the Owairaka Club Committee, Zone Committee and central Auckland body, assisting in meeting management and taking teams to Australia. She has also assisted Auckland Special Olympics teams at National Championships.

She has worked at Massey University Campus at Albany as an Administration Officer when the University was being built, and has enjoyed completing several house renovations. Crochet is a relaxation for Sheryl, and she cleverly makes her own designs.
Sheryl can now enjoy teaching as a relief teacher; she helps with her husband’s business interests and has taken up furniture making!
