Roger Loveridge
Not only a sports lover, Roger went on to be a very successful auctioneer. I have been told that he was quite the ‘talker’ at school!
He gained University Entrance in 1954 and was the Head boy that same year. Roger was an all-rounder. He played for the 1st XV Rugby from 1952-54 (Captain in 1954), and was the senior swimming champ. For two years Roger won the Stan Brooks Cup for the most points in athletics and swimming combined and was a member of both teams for interschool events.
Roger was senior cadet and won the top cadet award for Area 4 Northern Military District. He also claimed the Lady Godfrey Cup for top rifle shooter 1951.
Post school Roger gained qualifications as an Associate of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand. His work history mainly involved auctioneering. From 1957-1972 he was a member of the Farmers Co-op Auctioneering Company and was Head Auctioneer from 1967-72. He moved to Dalgety NZ Ltd as Livestock Manager for the Waikato District from 1972-1979. The following two years Roger lived abroad in the UK and on returning to New Zealand became a freelance auctioneer for National Real Estate Companies.
Personal achievements were numerous. Roger was a Waikato Rugby Representative from 1957-1960. He was an NZ Rugby Almanack selection for two years and in that time was
named as one of the five promising players of the year. Roger continued his rugby career in London and played for the Saracens Rugby Club lst XV 1960-61. He is currently a member of the New Zealand Harlequin Rugby Football Club.
In 1996 he was the Inaugural Champion Real Estate Auctioneer of New Zealand.
Currently Roger has retired and lives on a lifestyle block in Hamilton. He has been involved with Probus Club and was Past President. Sporting wise Roger is a social bowler and follows most sports on TV.
Roger married Marilyn Summerville, an old student of the college. They have two daughters and a son and four granddaughters.
