Richie Harris
Academic, Sport and loads of personality. Richie had it all!
He left school with excellent qualifications, was a school prefect and spent many hours honing his sporting skills. Swimming champion, athletics prowess, captain of both soccer and cricket team. In Richie’s time the team qualified for the Gillette Cup final.
On leaving Richie graduated from Waikato University with a BSc and BSoc Sc and completed his Teaching Diploma at Auckland College of Education.
Presently Richie is Deputy Principal of Tamaki College in Auckland having taught most of his career in Auckland Schools.
He is very involved in sports coaching and has been very successful. Following are some of his team’s successes:
- Auckland Secondary Schools Coach (Rugby Union) 2006-08 (Northern Region Champions 2006, 07, 08)
- Blues Secondary Schools Coach (Rugby Union) 2009-11 (NZ Regional Champions 2010, 2011)
- Grammar Carlton Club Premiere Coach (Rugby Union) 2012 (Gallaher Shield Winners 2012)
Richie is married and has two sons – both very sporty I would presume.
Richie’s Dad Graham taught at Matamata College for many years and as well as inspiring many students with his knowledge and love of Shakespeare, he was an extremely successful cricket, netball and swimming coach.
Not only did Richie get his talents from his father, his mother Lesley (Baker) was a member of the first NZ Netball team to play at the World Championships (England). They finished runner-up to Aussie by ONE goal. (How often has that happened!!)
