Peter Hunt
Peter attended Matamata College for five years gaining School Certificate in 1966, University Entrance in 1967 and University Bursary in 1968. He played for three years in the cricket 1st XI and was in the rugby 1st XV in his final year.
From school Peter studied at Auckland University and completed his Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1974. While serving in the Royal New Zealand Navy, in 1976 he gained his Marine Engineering Qualification (UK Royal Navy Engineering College), and in 1978 he gained his Marine Engineer Officer Charge Qualification (RNZN). As an Active List Officer he served tours of duty in a conventional range of shore and seagoing roles until released from regular service at retiring age for rank in 1995. While now retired, he remains a Chartered Engineer by virtue of continued payment of the exorbitant IMechE (UK) annual membership subscription.
Of his various achievements he did acknowledge being the Commander of the Naval Guard at Waitangi in February 1983, and serving three tours of duty as the Marine Engineer Officer of two of the RNZN’s frigates.
Naturally Peter has travelled extensively and has been intimately familiar with much of the Pacific Ocean, and to a lesser extent, the North Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Ports of call also feature, along with private travel in England, Europe and Australia.
In his retirement Peter has many engineering and aeronautical interests and keeps fit by jogging!
Peter and his wife Denise are living in Masterton, and have an adult son Paul who is presently Business Finance Analyst with Z Energy at Head Office in Wellington.
