Moana Forbes (Reweti)

1995 to 2000

Moana arrived in Matamata as a Year 9 student with her Mum who was starting her teaching career at Matamata College.  It was obvious within a few days that this young girl was to be a sports star in the making.  She won all the swimming and athletic championships, was the road race winner and to top off was an extremely versatile and talented netballer.

She was a keen student in the classroom and went on to gain a B Bursary in Year 13.  From school Moana graduated with a BSc from Auckland Universtiy followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching. Teaching was in her blood and she has done stints at Auckland Girls’ Grammar, Mt Albert Grammar, Tokyo/Korean International School and currently is working part time at Nelson Central Primary.

On leaving school Moana continued with her netball and played NPC Netball for Netball North and North Harbour.  Currently she is a member of the New Zealand Women’s Sevens team and they recently won the Oceania title in Fiji – that was pretty exciting.  Training for NZ Sevens takes a lot of her time.  She runs her own fitness Bootcamps and works part time teaching.
