Margaret Wyatt (White)

1960 to 1961

Margaret gained School Certificate in Commercial subjects.  As well as SC she gained a Chamber of Commerce Bookkeeping qualification and was an accomplished stenographer passing Pitman’s Shorthand at 80/90/100 wpm.

She participated in a range of sports and cultural activities.   Margaret played in the A Netball team and was also a member of the school athletic team.  She was also a member of the school productions each year – Gilbert and Sullivan.

From school Margaret worked in the BNZ from 1962 until 1970.  She commented that it was an interesting period as a teller during the changeover to decimal currency in 1967.  A change in employment in 1972 saw Margaret become a Doctor’s receptionist followed by a six-year stint as a School Secretary.  In 1988 she gained employment as a Medical Secretary/PA in the Plastic Surgery Department at Middlemore Hospital where she remains employed to this day.

During a quieter period of her career Margaret became a builder’s apprentice – by default – having married a builder.

Margaret has managed to travel to many parts of the world, UK, USA, Italy, Australia and now she has more in the pipeline, namely Korea, Gallipoli and Croatia. (I think retirement is also in her plans, before she is asked to leave!)

Margaret has a daughter Nicola, a son Paul and five grandchildren.
