Kristen Curragh
Kristen had four years at College. She was most conscientious and talented young lady. She gained SC and SFC before heading to Waikato University. Kristen has wonderful empathy with people (I’m sure she inherit that from her Mum!) Her empathy with people led her into the teaching field where she gained both a Bachelor of Education from Waikato University and a Diploma of Primary Teaching at the Waikato School of Education in 1992.
A couple of years later (1994) while working in Wellington Kristen did further training to gain “equivalency to the Diploma of Early Childhood Teaching.” at the Wellington School of Education.
Kristen has worked in the Early Childhood Field, Primary Schools and has done contract work in Learning Media.
She lived and worked overseas for five years from 1995 to 2000. During this time Kristen travelled extensively in Europe, Africa, Thailand, Vietnam, India and Nepal.
In 2001 Kristen married her husband Drew and they now have two wonderful kids – 10 year old Hattie (Harriet), who is sport mad – loves netball and dance and eight year old Will who is creative, plays the guitar and enjoys art. Kristen teaches part time at the school the children attend – in lovely Mt Maunganui. Drew, her husband works in the film industry and has to spend much of the year away from home. They all love living near the beach – especially after living in Wellington!!
The ‘Curragh’ siblings –Mark lives and works in an orphanage and school on the Thai/Burma border. (“Children of the Forest – Thailand”), Jeremy is currently employed by WHK (an accountancy firm), then Kristen is number three and youngest Louise, has taken a break from her hectic work schedule as a Detective with the Tauranga Police and has been travelling for the last 10 weeks.
A standout memory for Kristen was the school ball she attended in Form 6 – I have a feeling that the “after ball” was the major highlight!
