David Priest

1983 to 1987

David was an outstanding all-round student.  He was academically exceptional and a terrific sportsman.  He gained School Certificate, University Entrance and an A Bursary before heading to Waikato University to study.  At the completion of one year at Waikato, David gained entrance to Otago Medical School.

As well as a fine academic and sporting record David was elected as Deputy Head Boy and served on the School Council every year and the Executive during his 7th Form.  He shared a leadership award with Deirdre Cornes in 1987.

As a 4th former David was a member of the 3rd XV Rugby team and later earned a full-time spot in the 1st XV.  He was also a very talented athlete and was always to the fore in the sprint events!

David graduated from Otago Medical School as a qualified MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.  He started surgical training in 1996 and got Part 1 of Fellowship exams but then he decided to change Tack!  He still has his Medical Practicing Certificate to practice medicine but  only works part time as a surgical assistant for two Orthopaedic Surgeons in Hamilton.

He has many “strings to his bow”.  David is a professional photographer, IT support person, website developer and home media installer.

David married Lynda (met at Medical School) in 1993 and they have three sons – Oliver 17, Harrison 15 and Freddy 11.  They have their father’s sporting talents.  David is heavily involved with the boy’s cricket and soccer.

He has a passion for Asian food – cooking and eating.  They are off to Thailand and Singapore to experience the true Asian cuisine.
