Angela Munro

1988 to 1992

It is not surprising that Angela has reached dizzy heights in her career.  As a school students Angela was always extremely active.  She was involved in most sports and reached the highest level in Netball.

 

She gained a B Bursary in her final year and also gained a Scholarship in Physical Education.   Along with all her sports prowess Angela was Head Girl and member of an extremely successful A Netball team.  She also won numerous tennis championships over her years at the school.

 

Post school Angela graduated from Waikato University with a Bachelor of Sport and Leisure Studies.  She decided on teaching as a career and gained her teaching qualification from Christchurch Teachers’ College.  She also gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership from Waikato.  Her first teaching position was at Cambridge High School as a PE/Science Teacher.  While in the Waikato she continued to play netball and was a member of the Waikato Under 21 Representative team.

 

Angela left teaching and took up a position in the New Zealand Fire Service where she has now worked for 14 years mostly out of the Counties Manukau Fire District.  Not content with her day-to-day responsibilities Angela has taken part in the World Firefighter Games Toughest Firefighter Alive, winning the female title in 2006 and twice has come second in the World Combat Challenge.  She has also competed successfully nationally and internationally in bodybuilding.  Notably placing 4th at the NABBA Universe in Southport, England, 1999 and 3rd at the NABBA Worlds in Greece, 2005.  Angela is a regular participant in stair climbing events, winning fastest female in the Auckland Sky Tower firefighter climb in 2015 and equivalent in Melbourne, Australia, this year.

 

She has had many opportunities to travel widely for sporting events and personal holidays.  Currently Angela is advancing within the New Zealand Fire Service.
