Report on the 2018 South Island interschool champs and National Champs 29 September – 30 September 2018.
Matamata College fielded a team of 6 shooters for the SI and National Champs this year. The team assembled on the 28th down in Christchurch and we traveled as a team to both events.
The weather on the 29th was bright and clear with several getting a touch of sunburn, making the shooting fairly easy in terms of wind but the bright light conditions made spotting the clays interesting at times.
On the 30th the weather was the polar opposite (literally) as a Southerly wind drove the temperatures down with overcast skies combined with smoke from stubble fires making the shooting very challenging.
Overall, our team did well, Bryn Allen being our top shooter with a score of 155 for the two days shooting, second was Sean Allen with a score of 153 followed by Alex Colson at 146.
The team were splendid ambassadors for Matamata College and the trip was a great way to finish the clay target shooting season.
Special thanks go to the parents of the shooters, without their tireless support it wouldn’t be possible.
The Matamata RSA also deserves special mention for without their financial and moral support we would have struggled to attend the events.
