2nd Place in Otago University Ida Gaskin Essay Competition

Congratulations to Talia Parker who, in addition to taking out the Arts Week Senior Speech Competition, has performed with distinction in the prestigious Otago University Ida Gaskin Essay Competition.

One of the School’s leading scholars, it is no surprise that Talia was able to argue strongly in her essay that “Shakespeare’s female characters were more powerful than their male counterparts.”

This national competition was open to all Year 13 students nationwide and Talia is to be congratulated for her outstanding second place. This is no mean feat with a large number of entries. To top off her efforts Talia received several hundred dollars for her trouble. It is fantastic to see a Matamata College student competing and featuring in a competition of this level.

Well Done Talia, Matamata’s very own Academic Wonderwoman!
